John Mayer was at the Ellen studios on Friday to perform his latest stand-alone single, “I Guess I Just Feel Like”. The guitarist also took some time to talk about his latest social media initiatives, amongst other interesting topics.
Mayer’s performance of the new song hears the guitarist returning to his acoustic ways alongside a full backing band. Through his lyrics, Mayer taps into the same mix of honesty, doubt, and optimism which everyone around the country seems to be feeling these days. The performance also features some pretty smooth solo work from Mayer’s backing guitarist, David Ryan Harris.

Mayer also spent some time in Ellen DeGeneres‘ guest chair to discuss topics ranging from his focus on Instagram versus his days on Twitter, his fake Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, and even his new talk show, which has featured special guests ranging from David Spade and Bob Saget to Halsey and Maggie Rogers, since its inception in late 2018.
“It was kind of a half-joke at first,” Mayer admits about his Instagram based television show, which airs most Sunday nights. “I set up these two cardboard boxes and I have a backdrop I made myself out of foam core board. It looks like a science fair presentation … It became kind of like Mr. Rogers for hungover adults.” Fans can watch the video below to hear the entire interview.

Mayer will head out on tour for a run of international solo performances beginning later this month in Australia and New Zealand. His run of world tour dates will continue off and on into the summer months before teaming up with his Dead & Company bandmates for their own summer run starting in late May as well.
