Joni Mitchell To Release Book Filled With Lyrics, Poems, And Paintings

211

Joni Mitchell‘s 1971 Morning Glory book full of hand-written lyrics, original poetry, and even paintings will be released to the public for the first time this fall.

Announced via Mitchell’s Facebook page on Monday, the book titled, Morning Glory on the Vine: Early Songs and Drawings, will go on sale to the public through Houghton Mifflin Harcourt on October 22nd. Mitchell had initially published a limited run of 100 copies back in 1971, which were only given to a lucky selection of close friends and family members. The book includes a vibrant mix of Mitchell’s own lyrics and poems, with illustrations (also courtesy of Mitchell) including over thirty original paintings and watercolors.

The statement on the forthcoming release shared to Mitchell’s website describes the book with the following,

In this faithfully reproduced facsimile edition, Joni’s best-loved lyrics and poems spill across the pages in her own elegant script. The lively, full-color watercolor paintings depict a superb array of landscapes, still-lifes, portraits of friends, self portraits, innovative abstractions, and more. All the paintings from the original book are included, along with several additional works that Joni had intended to include for her friends in 1971.

The upcoming reissue will also feature an original introduction written by Mitchell. The book’s hardcover version will spread out across 128 pages, according to its pre-order page on Amazon.

Mitchell has remained out of the public eye almost entirely since suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015. A live album comprised of tribute performances recorded during Mitchell’s 75th birthday celebrations last November, was released just last Friday.
