Neil Finn is opting out of social media in response to the devastating terror attack on a mosque in Christchurch this past weekend that claimed the lives of 50 innocent New Zealanders.

The Crowded House legend and NZ native has taken to Twitter to announce that he’s quitting all forms of social media “out of respect for the grieving families of Christchurch and in consideration of their vast public tragedy”, writing that “these platforms have enabled the spread of hateful ideology and I will not participate anymore”:

Out of respect for the grieving families of Christchurch and in consideration of their vast public tragedy I will no longer take part in social media . These platforms have enabled the spread of hateful ideology and I will not participate anymore.
