Athens, GA-based improvisational rock quartet Perpetual Groove has announced their forthcoming self-titled album, due out on Friday, May 17th via Harmonized Records.
The release of Perpetual Groove will mark the band’s first full-length release since 2009’s Heal, as well as the first LP featuring the group’s classic lineup of guitarist Brock Butler, keyboardist Matt McDonald, bassist Adam Perry, and drummer Albert Suttle since 2007’s LIVELOVEDIE. The band’s forthcoming album was recorded in 2018 at studios in North Carolina and Georgia, and was produced by Jason Kingsland and Tim Friesen. Along with the album release, Perpetual Groove shared the LP’s first single, “Upswing”.
The band shared their thoughts with Relix about their new “Upswing” single. They explain,
Sometimes a video can bring a new emotional context to a song. This is especially true when you’ve only thought about the audio experience and the emotional space that fills for well over a year while in the studio with the song. This was also our first stab at a video of any sort. So, we landed on the idea of making a lyric video at Adam’s house using his projector. There are some obvious videos that we pay homage to and it was a really great experience for the three of us to get out of our normal creative space with each other to make the “Upswing” video.
