Unite For The Night: Fundraising Gig In Sydney Tonight To Save Sydney’s Live Music Scene

128

Night Time Industries Association (NTIA) have announced a special gig at Sydney’s Metro Theatre tonight.

Following the success of last Thursday’s Don’t Kill Live Music Rally for which thousands of people turned out, NTIA have launched a fundraising concert tonight to kick off their new ‘Unite for the Night’ campaign.

The special once off concert will feature live performances from Gordi, I know Leopard, Josh Pyke, and Kav Temperley of Eskimo Joe.

The Metro show will also see appearances from comedians Cameron James, Matt Okine, Mel Buttle, and Tom Ballard.

Organisers say the aim of the event is to educate people on the policies and commitments of major parties leading up to NSW’s state election later this month.

“It’s time for Sydney to wake up. If we don’t act now our city will be a cultureless [sic] palliative care facility in 10 years,” said Night Time Industries Association Chair, Michael Rodrigues.

“I won’t accept that as an outcome for my kids. I urge government to have a good hard look at the bureaucratic mess on its hands, appoint a night-time minister and fix it.”

Rodrigues said that the state of NSW’s night-time economy has rapidly become a top line issue in the election, saying Sydney and NSW’s night life is “slowly being strangled by endless red tape”.

He said, “This is the night fun fights back.”

Performing comedian and ex-triple j presenter, Matt Okine said, “In Sydney we work hard and we deserve to play hard. The night-time is the time where ideas come alive and creativity soars. It brings people together for fun and excitement. I want to unite for the night, so we can reclaim our good times.”

Just last week five music festival operators announced they will be taking legal action following the NSW Government’s release of the list of festivals they deem to be ‘high risk.
