After earlier reports of financial problems, it appears Woodstock 50 is going forward at Watkins Glen International racetrack in Watkins Glen, New York August 16 – 18. Billboard reports Dead & Company, Santana, The Killers, Imagine Dragons and Chance The Rapper will perform at the event.
“There’s always been lots of rumors around Woodstock,” co-organizer Michael Lang said in a statement to Billboard. “We have excellent partners and an incredible talent lineup of over 80 artists which will be announced within the next couple of weeks. We’re preparing a once in a lifetime event.” Billboard reveals that payment issues have been resolved and financial backer Dentsu has worked through problems regarding the capacity of the event, which is expected to draw 100K.
While the lineup was originally due in February, it is now expected later this month. Billboard’s source also states Superfly is working with organizers to handle logistics for Woodstock 50. The event comes in celebration of the original Woodstock, which took place in Bethel, New York August 15 – 18, 1969 featuring Jimi Hendrix, Santana, the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin and many others.
