Carl Broemel has shared a surprise new EP Brokenhearted Jubliee. The seven-song digital release features a brand new song from the My Morning Jacket guitarist along with six covers.

Broemel shared some background on the release:

“It is a collaboration with my good friend, drummer, and visual artist Eric Hopper. Eric and I teamed up last year to record some cover songs that we loved, and what we came up with is a made-to-order spring mix tape which also includes a new song of my own, ‘Face of the Earth.’”

Carl was backed by MMJ keyboardist Bo Koster, harmonica player Mickey Raphael and drummer Eric Hopper with string arrangements courtesy of Matthew Hopper. The album features the new track “Face Of The Earth” along with covers of Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon,” Paul McCartney’s “Junk” from his 1970 self-titled solo debut and “The Way It Is” from Gillian Welch’s 2011 LP The Harrow & The Harvest. The release also includes songs by Palmer Rockey, Sardina and Ron Sexsmith.
