Gary Clark Jr. Welcomes Lukas Nelson & Marcus King And Sits-In With Jack Johnson At Byron Bay Bluesfest

132

Gary Clark Jr. is currently on tour in Australia, where he played the 30th annual Byron Bay Bluesfest on Sunday. The guitarist brought out fellow Byron Bay 2019 performers Marcus King and Lukas Nelson for one song during his set. Clark Jr. later helped Jack Johnson close out the action on the Mojo stage.

Clark Jr., King and Nelson teamed up for “Don’t Owe You A Thang” off Gary’s 2011 EP The Bright Lights EP. Marcus was on hand with The Marcus King Band, while Lukas led Lukas Nelson & Promise of The Real for a Mojo stage set earlier in the day. The three guitarists traded licks throughout “Don’t Owe You A Thang,” though Clark Jr. let King and Nelson get the majority of the time in the spotlight.

Later in the night, Gary Clark Jr. sat-in with Jack Johnson on a version of “Staple It Together” that featured Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” interspersed within. Lukas also made multiple guest appearances with Johnson for “Breakdown,” Tom Petty’s “You Don’t Know How It Feels” and the encore of “Willie Got Me Stoned And Stole All My Money” and “Better Together.” The “Willie” in “Willie Got Me Stoned And Stole All My Money” is none other than Lukas’ dad, Willie Nelson.
