The National Details ‘I Am Easy To Find’ Screenings

110

In March, The National announced they would release a new album and companion film under the name I Am Easy To Find. Now, the indie rockers have detailed a number of worldwide film screenings and album-listening events scheduled throughout the month of May.

Each event features a screening of the Mike Mills-directed, 24-minute movie as well as an early premiere of The National’s forthcoming 68-minute LP. With events scheduled around the world from May 6 through May 12, the series offers an advance listen ahead of the project’s formal release on May 17 via 4AD. The screenings also proceed The National’s highly anticipated world tour to promote the record, which starts in June with support from Courtney Barnett. The American listening events and screenings are scheduled on May 7 in New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. Furthermore, The National has plotted out an extensive world tour for the premiere series, including stops across the entirety of Europe as well as Australia, Mexico and Japan.

Per a previous report, I Am Easy To Find was born from a 2017 email from Mills to National frontman Matt Berninger. After establishing a collaborative relationship, Berninger offered the director a series of songs to use as a soundtrack for the film, eventually foregoing a year off after 2017’s Sleep Well Beast to return to the studio to create more material for the project. As Bryce Dessner previously explained, “It’s a movie about a woman, so shouldn’t there be women’s voices? We’re a band that’s been largely defined by the sound of one person’s voice where suddenly now we’re hearing others.” Appropriately, the album sports a number of guest collaborators, including Gail Ann Dorsey, Lisa Hannigan, Eve Owen, Sharon Van Etten and Mina Tindle.
