Documentaries about Trey Anastasio, David Crosby and Miles Davis will be screened as part of this year’s Asbury Park Music & Film Festival (APMFF). The 2019 APMFF will take place at various venues in Asbury Park, New Jersey April 25 – 28 with all three films set to air at the Paramount Theatre.
The New Jersey premiere of Between Me & My Mind, a film about Phish frontman Trey Anastasio is slated for Sunday, April 28. A Q&A session with producer Jamie Schutz and Relix’s Mike Greenhaus will follow. “Driven by a constant need to create, Phish frontman Trey Anastasio takes on new projects, including some of his most personal music to date as well as Phish’s ambitious New Year’s Eve show at Madison Square Garden,” reads a description of the film. “Shortly through this look into the creative process of founding Phish guitarist and vocalist Trey Anastasio, it becomes clear that he is simply exploding with creativity and joy like few others. As the frontman of one of America’s longest lasting and most successful touring bands and a solo musician as well, Anastasio’s virtuosic musicianship has made him an icon, beloved by his die-hard fanbase for the depth of his artistic output and the boundless enthusiasm that he exudes on stage and off.” Between Me & My Mind will make its world premiere at The Beacon Theatre in New York City on April 26 as part of the Tribeca Film Festival.
APMFF opens on Thursday, April 25 with the New Jersey premiere of Echo In The Canyon, a documentary about the mid-60s Laurel Canyon music scene directed by Andrew Slater. Echo In The Canyon will be followed by a Q&A with Jakob Dylan and Slater as well as a musical performance from Dylan, Cat Power and Jade covering songs by The Byrds, Beach Boys, and The Mamas & The Papas. On Saturday, April 27, the Paramount Theatre will host an exclusive screening of rare and never before seen clips from Bruce Springsteen‘s archives. Later in the day, filmmaker A.J. Eaton’s recently premiered David Crosby documentary Remember My Name will be screened at the Paramount. Crosby will participate in a Q&A with Cameron Crowe following the screening.
On Sunday, April 28 House Of Independents will host Bob Dylan Center Presents: Dylan Archives IV featuring rare footage from Bob Dylan’s vault. In addition, Miles Davis: Birth Of Cool, a documentary containing never-before-seen archival footage, studio outtakes and rare photos will be screened at the Paramount at 12 p.m. on April 28.
