Eric Clapton Covers ‘Purple Rain’ Again In London

178

Eric Clapton concluded a three-concert run at Royal Albert Hall in London with his second ever cover of the Prince classic “Purple Rain.” Slowhand used the title track from The Purple One’s 1984 album as the first tune in a two-song encore.

Clapton initially performed “Purple Rain” on May 13 as the evening’s lone encore. The rest of last night’s setlist was extremely similar to those performed on May 13 and 15. “Little Queen Of Spades” replaced “Five Long Years” towards the end of the set on Thursday just as Slowhand did on Wednesday. “Purple Rain” was followed by a cover of Bo Diddley’s “Before You Accuse Me” featuring special guest guitarist Jimmie Vaughan.
