On Monday, Grammy Award-nominated Irish singer-songwriter Hozier was announced as the latest performer to join Newport Folk Festival‘s 2019 lineup. The long-running annual festival is set to return to Newport, RI’s Fort Adams State Park on July 26th-28th.
Hozier will join previously announced artists including Warren Hayes, Phish’s Trey Anastasio, Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Benmont Tench, Gregory Alan Isakov, Jeff Tweedy, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Maggie Rogers, Sheryl Crow, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and many more.
As the event does with all of their performers, Hozier’s involvement means the Newport Folk Festival’s charitable arm has made a donation on behalf of an organization of the artist’s choice. This time around, festival organizers have made a donation on Hozier’s behalf to The Angel Band Project, which provides life-affirming music therapy programs for survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence. Music therapy gives a voice to survivors and allows them to safely work through their trauma by exploring music interventions such as songwriting, lyric analysis, drumming, and spontaneous music making.
Tickets are sold out, but fans can head to the Newport Folk Fest website for general info for this year’s event.
