Phil & Brad Cook’s Cooks In The Kitchen Join 2019 Newport Folk Festival Lineup

98

Phil Cook and his brother Brad Cook will present a Cooks In The Kitchen set at the 2019 Newport Folk Festival. Cooks In The Kitchen will perform at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on Friday, July 26. The festival runs through Sunday, July 28.

For this year’s installment, the Newport Folk Festival has teamed with each act on the lineup to donate to a music education cause of their choice. The Newport Festivals Foundation made a donation on behalf of the Cook Brothers to benefit BUMP: The Triangle. Here’s more on how the money will be used:

When BUMP: The Triangle held a pilot program for Ubuntu Music Academy last spring, the twenty-five musical instruments donated by generous community members desperately needed cleaning and repair. Damon “Dr. Bass” Walker, owner of Dr. Bass String Instruments, graciously donated the repair of the string instruments. Even though funding had not yet been identified, Dr. Bass arranged for the brass and woodwind repairs and discounted the room rental rates at his studio for the pilot program. The Newport Festivals Foundation’s generous donation enabled BUMP to pay Dr. Bass in full and close out the invoice.

Read a note from BUMP executive director Dr. Georgiary Bledsoe:

“Thank you, Newport Festivals Foundation, for helping us to serve our community well and empower our youth through music of the African Diaspora. Phil Cook, thank you so much for adopting BUMP as your cause and for recommending us to the Newport Festivals Foundation! We couldn’t be more grateful for your support and your dedication to recognizing and affirming the cultural assets of our youth.”

Warren Haynes, Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family Band, Trey Anastasio, Sheryl Crow, Jeff Tweedy and Mountain Man are just a few of the other acts on the 2019 lineup. Tickets to the this summer’s Newport Folk Festival are sold out.
