Former Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has announced a new podcast series, which will center around the forthcoming auction of over 100 guitars from his personal collection on June 20th.
Gilmour took to his social media pages to share the announcement earlier this week, detailing that The David Gilmour Podcast will come in three parts, with the first episode scheduled to arrive on Spotify, Acast, Apple Podcast, and Stitcher this Friday, May 31st. The limited series will hear Gilmour sharing stores behind three of his most famous guitars to be included in next month’s charitable auction, including his 1969 black Fender Stratocaster (May 31st ep.), his six and 12-string Martin acoustics (June 7th ep.), and his 1954 white Fender Stratocaster (June 14th ep.).
Each of the featured guitars holds a special place in the band’s history, as they were used on recordings for some of the band’s biggest hits including “Wish You Were Here“, “Comfortably Numb”, and “Another Brick In The Wall (Parts Two and Three)”. As previously reported, the 1969 black Strat alone is expected to sell for an estimated $100,000 to $150,000.
“These guitars have been very good to me,” Gilmour told Rolling Stone to go with the auction’s initial announcement in January. “They’re my friends. They have given me lots of music. I just think it’s time that they went off and served someone else. I have had my time with them. And of course the money that they will raise will do an enormous amount of good in the world, and that is my intention.”
Gilmour becomes the latest classic rock star to announce their own podcast. Earlier this week, former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant announced his forthcoming Digging Deep podcast, set to debut on Monday, June 3rd via all of the major streaming platforms.
