Spafford Welcomes Back Drummer Nick Tkachyk In New Orleans

114

Spafford played their first show with former drummer Nick Tkachyk back behind the kit on Saturday night at the Civic Theatre in New Orleans. Tkachyk replaced Cameron LaForest, reclaiming the seat he held from 2011 – 2017.

Tkyachyk, guitarist Brian Moss, bassist Jordan Fairless and keyboardist Andrew “Red” Johnson opened their lone set with “Take Your Mama.” Spafford then delivered a 28-minute “Electric Taco Stand” featuring a cover of John Coltrane’s “Impressions” within. The recently debuted “Comfortable” came next along with expansive versions of “All In,” Mind’s Unchained” and “The Postman” that spanned 21 minutes, 15 minutes and 23 minutes respectively.

Red took a moment to welcome Nick back to the stage towards the beginning of “Mind’s Unchained.” Spafford concluded the set with yet another jam vehicle, this time with help from Umphrey’s McGee keyboardist Joel Cummins. Joel added to an adventurous, 22+ minute “Leave The Light On.” The four-piece ended the night with a “Weasel” encore.
