On Sunday, Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss hosted a solo benefit concert on the patio of Highwood, IL’s Teddy O’Brian’s in honor of his late friend and bandmate Jeff Austin. All proceeds from the intimate afternoon performance went to Jeff’s family.

Bayliss welcomed his wife, brother, son, and daughter, and other guests throughout the two-set performance, as he worked through songs from his 30db project with Austin, a selection of covers, and Umphrey’s tunes. After opening the first set with 30db tunes “One Man Show” and “Liar”, Bayliss offered up covers of Crosby, Stills & Nash‘s “4 + 20”, Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song,” Bob Dylan’s “Mama, You Have Been On My Mind”, Phish‘s “Lifeboy”, and the Grateful Dead‘s “Sugaree”.

Following a setbreak, Bayliss returned with Umphrey’s McGee’s “Cut The Cable” before inviting his son Roman Bayliss up to take the vocal lead on The Beatles‘ “Blackbird”. Bayliss also invited his daughter up for “Brushing My Teeth”, which was followed up by 30db’s “Backfire” and “Susanah”. Brendan continued his second set with The Beatles’ “Two Of Us”, which featured his brother Robert, before closing things out with Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian” and Otis Redding’s “Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay”. A tender rendition of the Grateful Dead’s “Ripple” served as the concert’s lone encore.
