Willie Nelson‘s annual Farm Aid fundraising festival is headed to Wisconsin this fall, as the one-day music event hopes to ease the financial burden currently felt throughout dairy country by midwestern farmers and agricultural workers.
The 34th annual running of the philanthropic music event, which was co-founded by Nelson alongside Neil Young and John Mellencamp, will see all three men and their bands along with some of their musical friends perform to raise money for farmers at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI on September 21st. Other artists scheduled to perform at this year’s Farm Aid include Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Bonnie Raitt, Margo Price, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Jamey Johnson, to name a few.
More artists featured on the event’s 2019 lineup poster shared on Tuesday include Tanya Tucker, Brothers Osborne, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Yola, Particle Kid.
“With devastating weather, low prices and harmful farm and trade policies, America’s family farmers are facing immense challenges to hold on to their farms,” Nelson said in a statement to go with Tuesday’s lineup announcement. “It’s not right… family farmers are essential for all of us. By bringing our festival to the heart of the struggle, we will stand side by side with farmers. At Farm Aid 2019, we’ll highlight solutions and show our support for family farmers’ contributions to our health, economy and environment.”
Mellencamp also added, “We’re bringing Farm Aid to the heartland because we need to show the country what’s happening to the people who grow our food and take care of our soil and water. We want family farmers to know that we won’t let them go down without a fight. And neither should you — farmers need us, and we need farmers.”
The yearly initiative has reportedly raised $53 million for programs to benefit family farmers and to support a family farm-centered food system in the United States since beginning in 1985.
