Former Led Zeppelin bassist and multi-instrumentalist John Paul Jones has a new musical project by the name of Sons Of Chipotle.

The new project was announced by Jones via his website and will see him presenting instrumentation of piano and electronics along with cello/electronics from his new bandmate Anssi Karttunen.
“It is incredibly rare to find two of the finest musicians in the world performing in such an intimate setting for what will be a series of remarkable concerts,” a statement reads in the announcement post on Jones’ website. “Both musicians are known to be curious minds, always ready to learn and to discover. When they improvise, borders disappear, they are free to migrate beyond prejudices, across continents. In a world where walls are being built and people are told where they cannot go, Sons of Chipotle want music to be a place of openness.”
The band will make their live debut in Japan with a pair of shows at the Pit Inn, in the Shinjuku area of Tokyo on September 3rd and 5th. The two shows will also feature a pair of special guests in Otomo Yoshihide (Ground Zero) and Jim O’Rourke (Sonic Youth).
Jones and his former Led Zeppelin bandmates have stayed busy as the famous rock band and their legion of fans celebrate 50 years since the group’s formation in 2019. While all three living members will be featured in a forthcoming documentary celebrating the band’s 50th anniversary, the group’s legal team will also be busy preparing to return to the infamous court case claiming Zeppelin stole one of the main riffs used in their beloved “Stairway To Heaven” anthem, which is set to receive further examination in appeals court beginning in September.
Tickets for Sons Of Chipotle’s two Japan performances go on sale this Sunday, July 28th, at 10 a.m. “Japan Time.”
