The Highwomen, the Americana-focused group comprised of Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Maren Morris, and Amanda Shires, has shared a new single from the band’s forthcoming self-titled studio album. The song is simply titled, “Highwomen”, and follows the previously-shared “Crowded Table” and “Redesigning Women” as the third single set to appear on The Highwomen when the 12-track album arrives on September 6th via Low Country Sound/Elektra Records.

The new single was co-written by Shires and Carlile alongside the album’s producer Jimmy Webb. The softly-sung folk tune hears the various members take turns singing the vocals as the song strolls along to a relaxed flow. The 3:33-minute recording reaches a melodic climax as all the members step to the mic to belt out the song’s group harmony chorus lines, “We are the daughters of the silent generations/You sent our hearts to die alone in foreign nations/It may return to us as tiny drops of rain/But we will still remain.”

In addition to revealing a new single on Tuesday, the band also shared the bonus live video showcasing their recent television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with their unaired cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s “The Chain”. The video’s production takes a page right out of the That ’70s Show playbook with one long, circulating camera shot showcasing each member of the group (plus Webb and Fallon) seated in a circle as they perform the classic rock tune.
