148

Yo La Tengo played show six of their 8 Nights Of Hanukkah residency on Friday at The Bowery Ballroom in New York City. Opening act Sylvan Esso sat-in with the headliners, who were joined throughout the evening by Yeah Yeah Yeahs drummer Brian Chase.

Comedian Brittany Carney was also on the bill and there was a tribute to poet Steve Dalachinsky performed by Luc Sante and William Parker. Yo La Tengo brought out Parker during their set to play bass on “Don’t Have To Be So Sad.” Parker then switched to a small horn for a performance of “Outsmartener.” After Parker’s exit and “Song For Mahlia,” Sylvan Esso’s Nick Sanborn came out and added electronics to “Above The Sound,” “The Crying Of Lot G” and “Satellite.”

YLT continued their main set with several favorites, closing with “The Story Of Yo La Tengo.” The encore began with “Shock Me” by Lenny Kaye whose birthday was on Friday and was followed by a cover of The Velvet Underground’s “She’s My Best Friend.” Houston-based Allen Hill then came out to sing “Secret Agent Man.” Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath (also of Mountain Man) emerged with Chase to augment a cover of “Hanky Panky.” Friday’s concert ended with Yo La Tengo covering Bob Dylan’s “Fourth Time Around.” Check out video clips from last night below:
