Drummer Bob Gullotti has died. A message posted by the Cambridge, Massachusetts jazz club The Lilypad, where Gullotti regularly performed, confirmed the drummer died on Saturday, January 25. A cause of death was not given.

Gullotti was a professor of percussion at Berklee School of Music from where he graduated in 1972. Gullotti was a co-founding member of The Fringe and also performed with Hal Crook, Michael Ray & the Cosmic Krewe, Rick Stepton and several others. Gullotti was part of Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio‘s Surrender To Air project in 1996 that also featured with Sun Ra Arkestra director Marshall Allen along with John Medeski, Marc Ribot, Oteil Burbridge and Phish’s Jon Fishman.

Gullotti performed live with Phish three times, first on October 23, 1996 at Hartford Civic Center when he sat-in for the entire second set and encore. Gullotti also accompanied the band for the entire second set and encore on July 25, 1997 in Dallas and for the entire concert the following night in Austin.
