Goose’s Rick Mitarontonda & Peter Anspach Cover Phish & Perform Originals At ‘An Evening With Osiris’

66

Goose guitarist Rick Mitarontonda and multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach went unplugged on Thursday night for performances during the first ever An Evening With Osiris event at The Bell House in Brooklyn. Mitarontonda and Anspach teamed with bassist Jeff Arevalo to play a series of Goose originals and two Phish covers over the course of the two-hour event as part of the Brooklyn Podcast Festival.

The format of the event found Osiris co-founders Tom Marshall and RJ Bee asking Rick and Peter questions about songwriting and other topics. Marshall would then recite the lyrics of Goose songs ahead of the trio’s performances of said tunes. Up first was “Arcadia,” written by Mitarontonda, and then came Anspach’s “Time To Flee.” Marshall and Bee then discussed a newer Goose song, “Western Sun,” with the guys before they served up an acoustic rendition.

At one point, the tables were turned and talk turned to Marshall’s lyrics for the Phish classic “Brian & Robert.” Tom asked Peter and Rick if they knew the song and they said they’d give it a try if Marshall sang. The four musicians turned in a nice version of the tune. Next up came a discussion of Goose’s “Jive II” after which Peter, Rick and Jeff turned in an eight-minute rendition. Marshall then requested the trio perform Phish’s “Birds Of A Feather” to end the evening and the guys complied.
