Phish bassist Mike Gordon and his five-piece continued their winter tour on Sunday at Mr. Small’s in Pittsburgh. The big news of the night was a performance of Inside In classic “Soulfood Man” for the first time since 2017 and just second since 2014.
Gordon, keyboardist Robert Walter, drummer John Kimock, guitarist Scott Murawski and percussionist Craig Myers began the show with the tour debuts of Overstep track “Face,” OGOGO gem “Up & Down,” Max Creek classic “Jones,” Myers’ “Angatta” and the Phish-debuted “555.” Next up was “I Am Random” ahead of a set-closing “Destiny Unbound.
The quintet kicked off the closing frame with the tour debuts of OGOGO’s “Equilibrium,” “Long Black Line” from Overstep and “My Favorite Mistake” — a song penned by Gordon and Murawski that the band premiered last year. From there, Gordon and company performed Murawski’s “Acid Man” before busting out “Soulfood Man.” The latter was a staple for Mike’s previous lineup through 2014 but was only performed on October 10, 2017 by the current lineup. A pairing of “Steps” and “How Many People Are You?” ended the set and the band said farewell with a “Looking For Clues” encore.
