The Disco Biscuits played the last of four New Year’s Run concerts at New York City’s PlayStation Theater on New Year’s Eve. The NYE festivities would mark the final show at the venue.
Keyboardist Aron Magner, drummer Allen Aucoin, bassist Marc Brownstein and guitarist Jon Gutwillig got things underway with a three-song first set that began with the classic “Jigsaw Earth,” a Gutwillig composition from the band’s 2000 album Señor Boombox. The four-piece then offered up the new number, “Stars In The Sky,” for just the third time. They first played the tune during their fall tour opening run at the Roxian Theatre in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania. Bisco would leave the song unfinished, opting to head into “Basis For A Day” to close out the first frame.
Bisco kicked off the second set with a cover of Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell” from the legendary band’s 1979 album The Wall. The Biscuits then headed into another McKees Rocks debut with “Anthem,” that would feature the New Year’s countdown. The band then got into some material from Disco Biscuits side project Conspirator with “Orch Theme” that began a continuous, set-closing block that included “Spacebirdmatingcall” and new song “4th Of July” before returning to “Spacebirdmatingcall” to bring the second set to a close.
The Biscuits started the third set with “Mindless Dribble” from their 2009 album, They Missed The Perfume, but one that debuted over 10 years earlier. The classics continued with more vintage tDB as the band segued into “Helicopters,” which contained NYE lyrics, and then headed into “We Like To Party” before offering up a jam that contained elements of DJ Todd Terje’s “Delorean Dynamite” and “Strandbar.” The group returned to “Helicopters,” reprising the NYE lyrics, to end the third set.
The Disco Biscuits retook the stage to perform “Frog Legs,” appearing on the band’s 2006 album, Rocket 3, ahead of a “Run Like Hell” reprise to close down the venue. Check out pro-shot full show video below:
