Umphrey’s McGee began a run through the Midwest at the Clyde Theatre in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Wednesday night. The concert featured the band’s first cover of “Cocaine” by JJ Cale in 607 shows and a rare Prince cover.
The sextet opened with a well-jammed 16-minute “Attachments” that bled into “2nd Self.” Then, “Triangle Tear” gave way to “Thin Air” before the band inserted “White Man’s Moccasins” into “Nemo.” UM ended the set by pairing “Uncommon” with their “Frankie Zombie” mashup of “Thunder Kiss ’65” (White Zombie), “Relax” (Frankie Goes To Hollywood) and “Have A Cigar” (Pink Floyd).
Last night’s second set got underway with a “Bridgeless” featuring a partial cover of “Cocaine” sung by guitarist Brendan Bayliss within. The original version of “Cut The Cable” and old school favorite “Kimble” followed ahead of UM’s take on Prince’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover.” A 16+ minute “Draconian” and “The Floor” closed out the frame. For the encore, Umphrey’s jammed “Hangover” into the end of “Bridgeless.” The band plays in Northfield, Ohio tonight. A live stream is available via TourGigs.
