ALO Withstands Zach Gill Losing Voice In Crystal Bay

138

ALO continued Tour D’Amour 2020 with shows at the Crystal Bay Club Crown Room on Friday and Saturday. Zach Gill lost his voice but the concerts went ahead featuring setlists heavy on songs sung by his band mates.

On Friday, ALO opened with a run of “Push,” “The Gardner” and “Cowboys & Chorus Girls.” The latter was one of the only tunes sung by Gill all weekend. “That’s the best I’ve heard you sound all day,” bassist Steve Adams quipped following the song. Next up was new song “Spark” and “How Is This All Ending?” from drummer Ezra Lipp‘s Magic In The Other project. Adams then handled lead vocals on a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Everywhere” before ALO jammed “Try” into “Can’t Always Get What You Want” by The Rolling Stones. Steve also sang “The Rain” and shared frontman duties on The Beatles’ “The Ballad Of John & Yoko” ahead of a set-closing “I Wanna Feel It.”

Saturday’s set began with “I Love Music” and then the quartet performed new songs “Rewind” and “The Party (I’m Sorry I Missed).” Next, Lebo (Dan Lebowitz) led his mates through “Undertow” before the band treated fans to classic “Plastic Bubble.” A well-jammed “Shapeshifter” containing a cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Sweet Child O’ Mine” followed. ALO closed out the set with The Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy For The Devil” and their own “Lady Loop.”

“Well, I lost my voice this weekend after the first show of our three night run. And I was feeling pretty bad about it, after all I’m a singer in a band, I’m not supposed to lose my voice,” Gill wrote as part of an Instagram post. “But I can honestly say that the band, our crew and our amazing audience picked up the slack for me. The shows were great, oozing with creativity, enthusiasm and love both on and off stage, from spontaneous flower petal tosses to an amazing hand woven nest for our little ALO egg. I felt like I was soaring on your energy. These were great nights and I’m eternally grateful to get to do this with y’all.”
