Brandi Carlile Performs With Seattle Symphony At Benaroya Hall

144

Brandi Carlile began a three-night run at the Benaroya Hall in Seattle on Friday night. The singer-songwriter — who hails from Ravensdale, Washington — performed much of the show with the Seattle Symphony.

Carlile kicked things off with just her and the symphony for a rousing cover of Elton John’s “60 Years On.” Carlile’s band then joined in for a rocking intro to “Hold Out Your Hand” from her 2018 album By The Way, I Forgive You. Next, Carlile reeled off a number of her classics including “Raise Hell,” “The Story,” “The Eye” and “The Mother.” After “Harder To Forgive,” opening act The Secret Sisters would join Brandi on “Fulton County Jane Doe” ahead of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case Of You” and a return to Elton John with “Madman Across The Water.” Carlile brought the set to a close with “The Joke.”

Brandi would reemerge for a two-song encore that included a mic-less “Cannonball.” Carlile prefaced the performance by saying “this is a pretty big place for me to attempt this” but her bandmates would help her out on harmonies. Then, Brandi would go solo acoustic, save for a swelling string arrangement, for a moving cover of the Leonard Cohen classic “Hallelujah to bring the evening to a close.
