Golden Gate Wingmen returned to Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California for their second of two shows on Thursday night. The supergroup consisting of bassist Reed Mathis, drummer Jay Lane, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and guitarist John Kadlecik unveiled a cover of the Beatles’ “Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite” as part of their second set.
The Wingmen kicked off the evening with George Harrison’s “Any Road” and then followed Bob Dylan’s “Crash On The Levee” with the Robert Hunter/Kadlecik-penned “So Blue.” Next, Mathis led the group through “Black-Throated Wind” and John K. handled vocals on “Lazy River Road.” The set ended with a run of “Can’t Stop The Sun,” “Isis,” “Accidentally Like A Martyr” and “Shakedown Street.”
Last night’s second set began with the pairing of “Sugaree” and “Not Dark Yet.” Golden Gate Wingmen then tackled the Dead’s “Row Jimmy” and “Might As Well” before Reed sang “Tombstone” by Nathan Moore. The show continued with what according to Setlist.FM was the GGW debut of “Being For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite,” a song the Beatles originally released on 1967’s Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. “Mr. Kite” faded into “The Other One” and then the Wingmen jammed “Wharf Rat” into “Not Fade Away.” Kadlecik led his mates through an upbeat rendition of “Ripple” as the encore.
