Grace Potter performed an impromptu rendition of a The Rolling Stones classic at the House Of Blues Boston on Friday night. Potter played a few minutes of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the band she sang “Gimme Shelter” with in 2015 as an intro to her own “Everyday Love.”

The singer-songwriter started a solo performance of the song The Rolling Stones first released on their 1969 album Let It Bleed before her band joined in to back her. Potter treated the audience to a few verses and choruses and then told the crowd, “Okay can we play my song now?” Grace and company segued into “Everyday Love” from Daylight as the Vermont native told fans, “I was not thinking about ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ when I wrote this, I swear!” Potter stopped “Everyday Love” after exclaiming, “Okay, well now it sounds ridiculous to sing my song after singing a Rolling Stones song, so hang on. We have to do a full-on Men In Black brain memory erase.

“Ready everybody? Close your eyes and open them really quick,” Grace continued. “You’re going to feel a little tingle and a quick flash. One. two. three! Your brains have been erased. You don’t know who The Rolling Stones are and this is the first time you’ve heard this particular song.” With that, Potter and her band finished “Everyday Love.”
