Legendary guitarist Dave Davies of The Kinks was born on this date in 1947 in London. JamBase celebrates the 73rd birthday of the influential guitarist by sharing the Kinks’ 1972 appearance on German television show Beat Club.

Dave Davies founded The Kinks in 1964 with brother Ray Davies. The band — which also featured Pete Quaife and Mick Avory in its original lineup — first gained International fame with their single “You Really Got Me.” More hits such as “All Day & All Of The Night,” “Tired Of Waiting For You” and “Dedicated Follower Of Fashion” followed. However, the Kinks were at their best when putting together albums including a run of iconic LPs The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society, Arthur (Or The Decline & Fall Of The British Empire), Lola Versus Powerman & The Moneygoround, Part One, Percy and Muswell Hillbillies between 1968 and 1971.

The Kinks performed at Beat Club in Bremen, Germany on April 12, 1972 in support of Muswell Hillbillies. In the footage below, the Kinks roll through a total of seven songs. Up first is the beloved “Lola” before the band pluck “Holiday,” “Alcohol,” “Skin & Bones” and the title track from Muswell Hillbillies. Early hits “You Really Got Me” and “All Day & All Of The Night” close out the video. Watch the Kinks’ Beat Club performance below:
