Umphrey’s McGee Dusts Off Jimi Hendrix Cover In Bend

Umphrey’s McGee kicked off a West Coast run at Midtown Ballroom in Bend, Oregon on Wednesday night. The sextet included three 2019 debuts into the setlist, namely a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Power Of Soul.”

The instrumental intro “Nipple Trix” led into “The Floor” to get the show underway. Last night’s “Nipple Trix” was UM’s first in 46 shows. A jammed out “North Route” then gave way to “Mulche’s Odyssey” before the year’s first “13 Days” was connected to “Conduit” by a drum solo. Umphrey’s closed out the frame by pairing “Cemetery Walk” and “Cemetery Walk II.”

Umphrey’s McGee opened last night’s second set with a rare standalone “Der Bluten Kat.” Then, the six-piece jammed their own “Intentions Clear” into a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Power Of Soul.” Jimi wrote “Power Of Soul,” originally known as “Power To Love,” for his Band Of Gypsys project. The five-song, improv-heavy second set in Bend ended with “Draconian” and “Go To Hell.” UM said farewell with a “Booth Love” encore.
