Just last month Gorillaz announced their ‘Song Machine’ project. Where they’ll be releasing all 22 songs from the project, pretty much at random. Today, we have ‘Désolé’ a very weird but very good new single, featuring Fatoumata Diawara.
It’s a cool, groovy track with these light and easy synths and beats. Malian star, Fatoumata Diawara’s vocals bring a really unique quality to the track. The lyrics alternate between English, French, and Bambara throughout.
In the clip, the Gorillaz characters, along with Diawara and their own Albarn take a boat ride, travelling through Italy’s Lake Como. However, Murdoc (the green character) is left behind in the studio.
The first instalment of the ‘Song Machine’ project was ‘Momentary Bliss’ which featured Slowthai and Slaves. The group’s teased a collab with Tame Impala too.
As for when we’ll get the next taste of ‘Song Machine’? Well, like Gorillaz’ animated drummer said, “Song Machine feeds on the unknown, runs on pure chaos. So whatever the hell’s coming, we’re primed and ready to produce like there’s no tomorrow. Y’know, just in case…”
