Ween Covers The Doors & Busts Out ‘Oh My Dear’ In New York City

121

Ween concluded their first run of 2020 with shows at Terminal 5 in New York City on Friday and Saturday. The quintet performed “Oh My Dear (Falling In Love)” for the first time in nearly 16 years on Friday and included a cover of The Doors’ “L.A. Woman” within Saturday’s finale.

On Friday, the band kicked off their return to T5 after four years with a run of “Take Me Away,” “Gabrielle” and “Transdermal Celebration.” Ween focused on material from Quebec and Chocolate & Cheese with five songs a piece from those albums. The show also featured rarities “Beacon Light,” “Now I’m Freaking Out,” “Chocolate Town,” “Old Queen Cole” and “It’s Gonna Be A Long Night.” A memorable moment came in the middle of the band’s 29-song performance when they dusted off The Pod track “Oh My Dear (Falling In Love)” after 282 shows on the shelf. The five-piece concluded the night with an encore of “Freedom Of ’76,” “Drifter In The Dark” and “Someday.”

Ween got Saturday’s show underway with “What Deaner Was Talking About” and a double dose of fantasy in the form of “Captain Fantasy” and “Don’t Get 2 Close (2 My Fantasy).” A concert heavy on songs from The Mollusk followed. In the middle of the set, Ween worked “I’ll Be Your Johnny On The Spot” into their second ever cover of “L.A. Woman,” the title track from The Doors’ 1971 album. Later, the band gave drummer Claude Coleman Jr. a drum solo in the midst of “Never Squeal” and added a bit of a reprise to the end of “Mister Would You Please Help My Pony?” Ween said farewell to NYC with an encore of “Your Party,” “The Mollusk,” “Polka Dot Tail” and “Buenas Tardes Amigo.”
