ALO made their annual Tour D’Amour stop in San Francisco on Saturday night at The Warfield featuring support from Leftover Salmon. Both bands joined forces, along with special guests, for a two-song encore.
LoS kicked off the action with an 11-song set that featured a slew of originals and a cover of Albert King’s “Like A Road.” Included within were a number of tunes from the band’s most recent studio album, Something Higher, in the form of “Astral Traveler,” “Show Me Something Higher” and “Southern Belle.”
ALO took the stage next with a run of “Get To Do It Again,” “Cowboys & Chorus Girls” and “Maria.” The quartet then performed “Ridin’” and “The Rain” ahead of recent single “Baby Blind Spot.” A wild 20+ minute “Shapeshifter” followed and included portions of “My Favorite Things,” “What The World Needs Now Is Love,” “Afro Blue” and “All You Need Is Love.” Guitarist Lebo (Dan Lebowitz) then dedicated “Storms & Hurricanes” to a couple who will soon be married. ALO ended the set with “Room For Bloomin’” and a cover of Blues Image’s “Ride Captain Ride.”
Leftover Salmon and ALO were aided by counter-culture icon Wavy Gravy and young shredder Asher Belsky for a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie” that featured costumed dancers to start the encore. The assembled musicians and dancers went on to end the night with a take on The Who’s “Join Together.”
