Death Cab for Cutie‘s Ben Gibbard presented an all-covers installment of his Live From Home livestream series on Sunday. Gibbard performed songs by John Lennon, Rilo Kiley, Big Star, Elliott Smith, Phoebe Bridgers, Bob Dylan, The Shins, Def Leppard and more over the course of his 50-minute set.
Ben began by covering John Lennon’s “Isolation” off the late Beatles’ John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band release. Gibbard then tackled “Silver Lining” from the final Rilo Kiley LP, Under The Blacklight and the Big Star gem “Thirteen.” The Washington state resident continued by performing his versions of Elliott Smith’s “Waltz #2,” Bridgers’ “Motion Sickness” and Dylan’s “If Not For You.” From there, Gibbard offered up “New Slang” by The Shins, Def Leppard’s “Hysteria” — which he dedicated to his wife — as well as “Bones” from the Netflix sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson and “Do You Realize??” by the Flaming Lips.
