Gimme Shelter In Place is JamBase’s new daily archival video series launched for fans who right now can’t go see live music. Canceled concerts and music festivals due to social distancing and sheltering in place in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic brought a halt to tours around the globe. We know nothing can truly replace seeing live music in person, but we hope the Gimme Shelter In Place live videos provide a taste of those memorable experiences.
For 30 years, High Sierra Music Festival has been a premier destination for those who love to go see live music. Held each summer at Plumas County Fairgrounds in Quincy, California, the long-running gathering of music makers and their fans has been the source of countless memorable musical moments from the main stage to the campground performances. While we hope we’re able to go see live music in time for this year’s High Sierra, this installment of Gimme Shelter In Place revisits last year’s fest.
A staple of HSMF is the Bitchin’ Kitchen camp stage. A delicious meal is prepared by the Bitchin’ Kitchen crew each night of the festival, while music is played from day to night at the nearby intimate stage. Mapache, Ron Artis II & The Truth, Gene Evaro Jr, Lebo (Dan Lebowitz), Cris Jacobs Band, members of The California Honeydrops and more played at the Bitchin’ Kitchen stage at High Sierra 2019.
On fried chicken night, entertainment was provided by Marty O’Reilly & The Old Soul Orchestra who supplied a fitting soundtrack to the incredibly tasty meal. The Santa Cruz, California-based quartet played a fun and welcoming set as plates were filled and emptied. One of the songs O’Reilly led his band mates through was “Let The Wind In,” a track off the band’s 2018 album, Stereoscope.
