Gov. Cuomo Bans Gatherings of 500 People or More

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a ban on gatherings of 500 or more people at a press conference Thursday. The ban is part of the state’s response to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The ban takes effect Friday at 5:00 p.m. across the state, with the exception of Broadway theaters, where the ban will go into effect Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

Venues that hold fewer than 500 people will see their capacities cut in half for the duration of the ban.

This decision comes in the wake of Cuomo’s Wednesday announcement of the closing of all SUNY and CUNY campuses along with the closing of many other college campuses across the state.

The National Basketball Association suspended its season Wednesday night during a game between the Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder when Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for the virus prior to the game. On Thursday Major League Baseball suspended its spring training and the National Hockey League suspended its season.

This is a developing story. 315 Music will update as details become available.
