Phish Fan Shares Footage From Camp Oswego & Big Cypress Festivals

In 1999, Phish threw two major festivals — Camp Oswego in the summer and Big Cypress to end the millennium. Videos of the scene and some of the music at both festivals was recently uploaded to YouTube.

YouTuber streetvan1997 shared 17+ minutes of footage from Camp Oswego, which was held at the Oswego County Airport in Volney, New York on July 17 and 18, 1999. The video starts with the fans who shot the footage riding a ferris wheel at the event, giving an interesting perspective on the festival. The video also includes footage filmed far from the stage during “Runaway Jim” and “Meatstick” as fans and the band pull off the choreographed dance along to the tune. Another cool scene featured in the clip is of the glowstick war that broke out during “Piper.”

streetvan1997 also posted two different clips filmed at Big Cypress, the biggest Millennium Eve gathering in the world. Phish played the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reserve in Florida’s Everglades December 30 – 31 including an “all-night set” that spanned midnight through sunrise. The first video features footage from the quartet’s first set on December 31 with a soundtrack of “Tube,” “Bouncing Around The Room” and “Roggae.” Finally, another 17+ minute clip starts as fireworks go off above Big Cypress signaling the start of 2000. Little can be seen from that point until the seven-minute mark where the videographer captures Jon Fishman singing “Love You.” Then, at the 8:30 mark, the footage picks up from the near-sunrise version of “Also Sprach Zarathrustra,” aka “2001” and concludes the way Phish ended Big Cypress, with a reprise of “Meatstick.”
