Trey Anastasio of Phish released a new song entitled “Lost In The Pack” just after 5 p.m. ET yesterday. Musician Reed Mathis began the latest installment of his Quarantine Medicinal Jams series with an inventive cover of “Lost In The Pack” just after 10 p.m. ET last night — a mere five hours after Anastasio shared the tune with the world.
Mathis played “Lost In The Pack” on electric guitar and using loops was able to solo over the progression. “Trey recorded that yesterday, posted it today, that’s pretty cool,” Reed noted. “It’s beautiful. It doesn’t seem to be specifically about COVID-19 or nothing but a lot of Trey’s songs can be taken as stuff like this … pleas for friendship or acknowledging friendship,” Mathis added. “Ever since (Phish) came back in 2009 that’s been sort of a subject, which is a good subject!”

Trey Anastasio Shares New Song ‘When The Words Go Away’
The performance of the Trey song was followed by Reed’s interpretation of “Hearts & Bones” by Paul Simon. Mathis then told a story about Simon’s short-lived marriage to actor Carrie Fisher as he was recording the album Hearts & Bones while she filmed Return Of The Jedi. Reed’s set also included covers of Fruition’s “Northern Town,” Ryan Montbleau’s “I Was Just Leaving,” the Grateful Dead’s “Standing On The Moon” and “Brown-Eyed Women” as well as “Not Dark Yet” by Bob Dylan and James Taylor’s “Carolina In My Mind.” Mathis ended the performance with the Willie Nelson classic “Slow Down Old World.”
