Tarrytown Music Hall in New York state hosted famed 80s hit makers Squeeze on March 01 2020. by Mark Ashe Photography
Squeeze burst onto the scene during the height of the 1980s and the MTv era with a strong of quirky but pop laden songs. Catching the attention of English heavyweights from the known (Elvis Costello) to the lesser known (Paul Carrach of Mike and the Mechanics and Roger Waters, who sang their hit Tempted.) Their sound was original and didn’t conform to any particular convention. America was buying and songs from Pulling Muscles from a Shell to Cool For Cats, Black Coffee in Bed and the aforementioned Tempted.

Glen Tilbrook and Chris Difford are the only remaining original members of the band and their voices sound amazing. They’ve been together for 45-years and with the audience dancing in the aisles during most of the two-hour, 22 song set it seems that Tilbrook and Difford have a place in history as one of the best bands ever to come out of London in the 70’s and 80’s.
The band did not rely on effects or banter, and did not interact much with each other or the audience. They came out, they played the hits, and many of them. The show emphasized their talents as singers and songwriters, and the history of the band more than smoke or lasers.
The Tarrytown Music hall is an historic 843-seat Music Hall, built in 1885 by chocolate manufacturer William Wallace. To say that the Music Hall is quaint doesn’t do the venue justice. World-class talent play the theater where the sight lines are perfect and the acoustics are spectacular. It’s easy to see why the Music Hall is on the National Register for historic places.
