The historic theatre in downtown Port Chester is in close proximity to the hotspots of New Rochelle and New York City and will close down this weekend.

The Capitol announced in this statement, “The Capitol Theatre and Phil Lesh have been closely monitoring the escalation of the Coronavirus outbreak. As much as we would like to celebrate Phil’s birthday with three shows this weekend, our first priority is the health and safety of the artists, our patrons, our staff, and the community. Given the spread of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New Rochelle, which is part of The Cap’s Westchester county community, both The Cap and Phil have determined that the best course of action is to postpone these shows to the summer. We feel this is the right thing to do and we hope you understand our decision.

We are currently formulating our plan for next steps for ticket holders but we felt it was important to get this message out as soon as possible. We will follow up with all ticket holders with specific course of action in the next day or two.

Your friends, The Capitol Theatre”

On March 12, 2020 a message from Garcia’s came through, the 300 capacity nightclub in the Capitol updated on their own shows with this statement, “

Although Garcia’s and our staff have not been directly impacted, the team has determined that the best course of action is to postpone the shows scheduled to be played at Garcia’s over the next two week period (through March 25) as well.

Note that we’ll be rescheduling these shows, and tickets already sold will be honored on the new date. However, if a refund is desired, it can be obtained at the point of purchase. Please stay tuned — we will follow up with the ticket holders for each respective show as we confirm the new dates. Your friends, Garcia’s

The world has been reeling for weeks over the spreading of the novel Covid-19 Coronavirus with governments taking action to attempt to slow the spread. Major events are being postponed including Coachella, the South by Southwest music festival, Big Ears Festival, the Pearl Jam tour, and more.

Phil Lesh famously survived a miraculous liver transplant decades ago, and would likely still be living with a compromised immune system as a result. This precautionary postponement is already being received well by fans. The entertainment industry is bracing for economic impact as are the related tourism industries of travel and hotel, restaurant and more. The President addressed the nation at 9P on Wednesday March 11th with a multi-tiered response that will include a travel ban from Europe to the United States that will take place by the end of the week.

Stay tuned here for updates.
