Tim Minchin Will Release His First Studio Album This Year

Aussie comedian and musician Tim Minchin has written some beloved songs over his extensive career, from his wildly popular ‘Prejudice’ to tackling the Australian marriage equality debate with ‘I Still Call Australia Hom…ophobic’. However, he’s curiously never released a studio album of music during that time.

Now, however, that’s all about to change. Minchin has signed a deal with BMG to release his first studio album this year, with first single – a “love/hate song to Hollywood” titled ‘Leaving LA’ – set for release next Friday, 13th March.

“I’ve been writing songs for 35 years, and have never released a studio album. Too many distractions,” commented Minchin, according to The Music Network.

“Signing with BMG has given me focus, and the confidence to aim for a record that isn’t defined by anyone else’s expectations. I’m loving the freedom, loving the process, and loving the team at BMG. They’re cool and nice.”

Minchin will kick off an Australian tour tomorrow night in Perth before continuing on throughout the rest of the country this month. He’s also set to perform as part of this year’s Splendour in the Grass lineup.
