Guitarist William Tyler‘s Music From First Cow soundtrack album will be released digitally via Merge Records this Friday, March 6. Tyler composed the music for the Kelly Reichardt-directed feature film, First Cow, which also has a March 6 release date.
The film’s soundtrack and score were written and performed by Tyler on guitar and dulcimer. Set in the early nineteenth-century Pacific Northwest, the movie stars John Magaro, Orion Lee, Toby Jones. Tyler will appear at a First Cow screening at Nashville’s Belcourt Theatre on March 31.
“William Tyler turned up at the First Cow edit room with his several guitars, a dulcimer, and long fingernails,” Reichardt said. “He got right to work, picking and strumming — it was all as good as it could be.”
A vinyl edition of Music From First Cow will be issued on July 31. The film’s trailer, featuring “Highway Anxiety” from Tyler’s 2016 album Modern Country, can be viewed below:
