Crowded House performed the band’s 1986 hit “Don’t Dream It’s Over” while in isolation for Saturday’s Music From The Home Front charity concert to help COVID-19 relief efforts in Australia and New Zealand. The resulting video marked the return of Crowded House for the first time since 2016.
The lineup featured in the video included co-founding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour joined by Mitchell Froom, Liam Finn and Elroy Finn. Both Liam and Elroy are Neil’s sons. Music From The Home Front came in honor of Anzac Day, which commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served” as per Wikipedia.
“On the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Crowded House reaching #2 on the American charts I’d like to post this video of us performing individually from home a version of ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over,’” explained Neil Finn in a note accompanying the video on Instagram. “We recorded it over a few hours between continents day before [Saturday]. It was for the ‘Music From the Home Front’ benefit concert in Australia / NZ. I really like the way it sounds and the process of flying tapes back and forth was fun…pure and simple… hope you enjoy too.” Proceeds from the concert went towards Support Act in Australia and Music Helps Live in New Zealand.
