Goose shared pro-shot video featuring a near 20-minute version of original “Tumble” from February 15, 2020 at The Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. The quartet’s The Regency Ballroom set opening for Pigeons Playing Ping Pong came as part of their first ever West Coast tour and one night after they made their San Francisco debut at the historic Great American Music Hall.
“Tumble” is a relatively new original for Goose which saw plenty of action throughout 2019 and at the start of 2020. Sung by guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, the song gives way to an expansive jam. Multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach starts off “Tumble” on guitar before focusing on organ tones throughout the Arabic-tinged composed section that leads into improvisation at which point Anspach returns to guitar.
Rick wasted little time diving into rapid-fire lead guitar work in the jam as Anspach plays rhythm guitar, drummer Ben Atkind pounds a powerful beat and bassist Trevor Weekz mimics Mitarotonda’s riffs. The funky and dirty improv remains at a fast pace through a modulation to a pretty major key around the 13-minute mark. However, Goose only takes their feet off the gas for a brief period before bringing the beautiful progression to a peak and ending “Tumble.”
