Post Malone Performs Nirvana Tribute

163

Post Malone delivered a Nirvana tribute livestream set on Friday. Post performed from home with virtual contributions from drummer Travis Barker of Blink-182, bassist Brian Lee and guitarist Nick Mac.

Post Malone opened up the tribute set — benefitting The United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for The World Health Organization — with “Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle” from Nirvana’s 1993 album, In Utero. The song itself is a tribute to the actress Frances Framer, a Seattle native who struggled with mental health issues and was involuntarily committed to psychiatric hospitals several times in her life. Post and company continued with “Drain You,” “Come As You Are,” “Lounge Act” and “School” ahead of “Heart-Shaped Box,” which saw Nick Mac adding harmony vocals. For the most part, Mac handled Kurt Cobain’s chorus drenched lead guitar parts while Post provided the grungier rhythm parts. Sometimes the two guitars would kick into overdrive together with Barker and Lee holding down the rhythm section.

Next, Post picked up an acoustic guitar and Lee would add violin on “Something In The Way” and Posty stayed on acoustic for “About A Girl.” Post Malone re-shouldered his Les Paul for “Stay Away” from Nirvana’s 1991 landmark album Nevermind. He prefaced the song by saying it was one of his favorites and revealing that he had it tattoed on his face. Next up, the Nirvana classic “Lithium” followed by “Breed,” “On A Plain,” “Very Ape” and “Territorial Pissings.” Post Malone closed out the session with Nevermind’s “In Bloom.”
