Written by Gary P. Nunn and Donna Sioux Farar, “Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning” first appeared on Nelson’s father Willie Nelson’s 1982 album, Always On My Mind. The song was covered by Chris Stapleton on his 2017 release, From A Room: Volume 1.
