Legendary San Francisco band Ace of Cups recruited Bob Weir, Jackson Browne and David Freiberg to contribute to their new single, “Made For Love.” The song and accompanying video marks the first release of music from Ace Of Cups since their self-titled studio album in 2018 and will appear on a new album entitled Sing Your Dreams due out via High Moon Records on August 18.
Ace Of Cups were formed in San Francisco in 1967 and consisted of Denise Kaufman, Mary Gannon, Mary Ellen Simpson, Diane Vitalich and Marla Hunt. The band broke up in the early-1970s before putting out a studio album. In 2016, Ace Of Cups reunited to begin work on Ace Of Cups, which featured four of the five original members. Hunt did not participate in the recording. Weir and Freiberg were among the illustrious list of guests that also included Jorma Kaukonen & Jack Casady, Barry Melton, David Grisman, Steve Kimock and others who contributed to Ace Of Cups.
“We felt that with the coronavirus, we just wanted to put something out that expressed how we felt,” Kaufman told Rolling Stone of the band’s new song. “We wanted to dig down into the place that we ultimately all know we’re connected. We’re all here together, and we’re made for love.”
Ace Of Cups tapped Stacey Printz to create the “Made For Love” video, which contains contributions from the band’s friends and fans. “Send videos and photos of you expressing love in your life,” was Printz’s directive.
