Greg Loiacono of The Mother Hips shared a cover of Tom Rush’s version of “Child’s Song” just in time for Father’s Day. Loiacono tapped his band mate, Tim Bluhm to record and mix the song at his home in Fairfax, California. Proceeds with go towards The Blue Rose Foundation and its mission of providing preschool scholarships to children from economically disadvantaged families.
Murray McLauchlan wrote “Child’s Song” and included a rendition on his 1971 debut studio album, Song From The Street. However, Tom Rush first released the song on his self-titled 1970 LP. It was Rush’s version that inspired Loiacono to record his own take on “Child’s Song.”
Greg Loiacono shared the following about his new single:
My friend, Joe, sent me the Tom Rush version of “Child’s Song” last Fall in the midst of helping my son apply to colleges. He said he’d like to hear my take on the tune and dared me to keep my eyes dry due to the particularly relevant content.
I asked Tim (Bluhm) if he would record me singing and playing the song. Once we were done we sent it to Joe for his enjoyment. He decided to release it for Father’s Day because of its insightful expression of family love and the emotions that come with a child embarking on their own journey.
