Pigeons Playing Ping Pong were joined by ALO‘s Lebo (Dan Lebowitz) for a portion of their Pool Deck set during the second day of Jam Cruise 18 in January. Pro-shot video of the “Julia” into “Plastic Bubble” into “Julia” sequence the quartet and their guest pulled off on January 8, 2020 has been shared on Jam Cruise’s YouTube channel and can be viewed below.
Lebo’s onstage history with PPPP dates back to October 6, 2018 when he sat-in with Pigeons at San Francisco’s Regency Ballroom. Pigeons had a surprise in store for Lebo that night, as he was asked to guest on their original song “Julia.” The four-piece surprised Lebo by dropping into ALO’s “Plastic Bubble” in the middle of “Julia,” which brought a huge smile to the guitarist’s face.
A second PPPP/Lebo collaboration took place at last summer’s High Sierra Music Festival and then on Jam Cruise, the five musicians reprised the “Julia”/”Plastic Bubble” medley. This time around Lebo knew it was coming. All told, the “Julia” > “Plastic Bubble” > “Julia” sequence ran 18 minutes and was highlighted by a duel between Lebo and Pigeons’ lead guitarist Jeremy Schon upon the return to “Julia.” Another fun moment was when PPPP frontman Greg Ormont changed the lyrics to “Plastic Bubble” to reference the cruise, which garnered an audible “Yeah!” from Lebo.
